Best Zigbee Filament / Edison Light Bulbs

Vintage design meets modern-day tech

We’ll just come out and say it – when it comes to Zigbee filament or Edison light bulbs, your choices are pretty bare. But if you need one, don’t worry – we’ve got you covered. Our own exhaustive searching and testing has uncovered the products listed below. We will be updating this post regularly to provide new information as it arrives.

1. Phillips Hue Zigbee Filament Smart Light Bulb

For better or worse, Hue makes the best Zigbee Edison bulbs on the market right now in terms of responsiveness and reliability. They also offer the best selection – with variations including A19 (typical light bulb size), ST19 (more vintage style, pictured here) and G25 (rounded; G for Globe).

The drawbacks? Well the price, of course (check link for best Amazon pricing). Also, if you want the complete Hue control experience, you’ll need to get their hub. Or you can get their starter pack on Amazon here – Phillips often has it on sale.

2. Sengled Vintage Zigbee Edison Bulb

Sengled Vintage Edison Filament Bulb

Sengled is well known for their reliable smart bulbs. And their new Vintage Edison Zigbee Bulb is no exception. This bulb does exactly what it’s supposed to do, and looks great doing it.

Cons are woefully present, however. The first is it’s availability. This is a very new product, and not yet available on Amazon. US readers can check it out here, but without Amazon support, we can’t recommend it to international users (here’s a link for Amazon if/when it becomes available). Another downfall is that they want you to use their app to have full control over the bulb.

3. Ikea Tradfri Zigbee Filament Bulb

I know, I know… But you’ve got to give Ikea credit on this one considering they have one of the very few options available for Zigbee filament bulbs. The major pro for this one – it’s a Zigbee Edison light bulb that costs $10.

Any drawbacks, you ask? Well, let’s start with connectivity. We literally had to mount our SmartThings Hub on top of portable socket to get it close enough to pair with the bulb. We also encountered power draw issues. These bulbs crank out at 2.7W – meaning that you get that oh-so-pleasent humming sound unless you pair them with a fluorescent bulb on the same circuit.

The verdict on Zigbee filament bulbs?

Unfortunately, that’s the extent of our list of Zigbee Edison bulbs. Despite our extensive testing, we ended deciding that the WiFi options our still better (our pick for the top WiFi Edison bulb is the Kasa Smart Wi-Fi Filament A19 LED Bulb by TP-Link). We desperately wanted to love any of these options, but none of them were usable in the current state. Our mesh system is more than enough to handle the WiFi traffic for now (check out our Orbi RBK 852 Review). But who knows how long that will last. For now, we just have to wait on tech to catch up to style.
